New to Mahjong?
Start Here
Mahjong Dubai uses 16-tile Taiwanese rules. Here's everything you need to know to play your first hand.
The Basics
4 players share 144 tiles — Bamboo (1–9), Circles (1–9), Characters (1–9), Wind tiles (East/South/West/North), Dragon tiles (Red/Green/White), and Flower/Season tiles.
Each player starts with 16 tiles. The goal: form a winning hand of 5 sets + 1 pair.
The Sets
Build sets to win. There are four types:
Calling Tiles
When another player discards a tile you need, you can call it — but priority matters:
Scoring (Tai System)
Points are earned in Tai — each winning pattern adds to your score. Dubai Advanced scoring adds bonus Tai for high-value hands.
Wind Selection Ceremony
Before each game, every player picks a face-down tile to reveal their seat wind. Winds rotate each round — East is the dealer and plays first.
